Communication is key of successful execution where team and inclusion is needed, in community consultations and engaging with different stakeholders before implementing any project is most important step to prevent future misconception and misunderstandings.

East Africa including Somaliland has been hit by strong locust which destroyed their crops and introduced them famine

as well as shortage of food and crop failures.

WFP under world bank has come to assist and save those people with humanitarian, resilience and respond projects.

The project had phase one that actually helped a lot of vulnerable, less privilege families on rural areas on Somaliland

The phase one hasn’t covered a lot of families and misfortunately locust hit has come back to crops and eliminated lot of crops. that is why WFP has decided first to extend the first families who were benefiting the program and increase their support for extra 6 months. moreover the other families aren’t left behind that is where the phase two of SLNRP comes around.

SCAN LNGO started this phase with consultation as usual,

The families will be provided with blue WFP card

And will be registered by their biometrics such as face and fingerprints.

The project is to aim and target a households which are less likely to support themselves and their families during the hardships

such as droughts, locust or any other disaster which could effect their income and livelihood.

These families will be registered with their Zaad numbers so they can have their cash for asset transferred to their zaad numbers by Telesom, a leading telecommunication and mobile money transfer company at Somaliland and during the community consultations these message was aimed to proper deliver to the head of the villages.

WFP partner with SCAN and Telesom will consistently focus on working to ensure that the households will receive their intended support.

This process will usually take a several processes to correct and clear out the errors from the scope registering.

Community consultation objectives.

  • To ensure that the proper data is collected
  • for making sure that the less vulnerable households are being registered.
  • providing and accurate data collection from the targeted households
  • penetrating the actual need of the families
  • To ensure that the Zaad numbers and head of the households are accurate and sync to each other.
  • proper respond to the effected area that the locust has hit.

Community consultation procedures.

The community consultation was aimed to deliver the proper message to the leaders, communities, women and other parts of the village, so that the execution .could be easily carried out during registering and implementations.

In conclusion, it is SCAN’S duty to actually focus on engaging with stakeholders, communities and inclusion like women and children during consultations. the project is about to start soon and as any other projects, it would have never been successful without help and working together with project stakeholders, SCAN would like to thank the communities of these villages, their leaders and everyone who has helped us to deliver such a important message to our people.
