Somaliland Community Action Network (SCAN) partner with WFP has successfully installed a drip irrigation system for 40 small-scale farmers across several villages in Somaliland such Huluuq, Agamsaha, Biyo-Macaan and Arabsiyo.

This intervention is part of SCAN’s broader initiative to support local farmers in overcoming water scarcity challenges and improving crop yield through efficient irrigation techniques.

These villages were chosen based on the existing agricultural potential and the pressing need for a more efficient, water-saving irrigation system due to ongoing water scarcity in the region. The project team experts, carried out the installation of the drip irrigation systems.

The drip irrigation system provides a sustainable and efficient way to use water, delivering it directly to the roots of the plants, minimizing evaporation and runoff. This is especially crucial in an area where water resources are limited.

At least the installation of the drip irrigation systems in Biyo Macaan, Agamsaha, Huluuq, and Arabsiyo villages marks a significant milestone in SCAN’s mission to improve agricultural practices and increase the productivity of marginalized farmers.

By adopting this water-efficient technology, these communities are poised to see both immediate and long-term benefits in terms of crop yield and sustainable farming practices. SCAN remains committed to supporting these farmers and expanding the reach of such transformative initiatives across Somaliland.

We extend our sincere gratitude to all partners, local farmers, and stakeholders who made this project possible. Together, we are transforming agriculture in Somaliland—one drip at a time.
