đźšś Farmer Trainings
In March, over 100 farmers participated in Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) training focused on disease control and fertilizer application. Held at demonstration farms, the sessions provided hands-on learning and practical guidance. Farmers reported thriving fruit crops and expressed gratitude for the training’s impact on their productivity and resilience.
🌾 Soil & Water Conservation
- Huluuq Earth Dam: Construction reached 90% completion. Final steps—geo-membrane installation and fencing—are expected by the end of March.
- Soil Bunds:Â 1200 meters of soil bunds were completed in both Huluuq and Agamsaha villages, achieving 100% of the monthly target. These structures help reduce erosion and improve water retention.
🌍 Environmental & Social Safeguards
From March 25–27, SCAN NGO, in collaboration with WFP, hosted a training at Ambassador Hotel led by WFP’s Regional Bureau (Nairobi). Participants learned to assess and mitigate environmental and social risks. A field visit to Gabiley provided practical monitoring experience, reinforcing the importance of responsible development practices.
👩‍🌾 Gender Transformative Agricultural Training
Held March 18–20 in Huluuq, Agamsaha, Arabsiyo, and Biyo-Macaan, this training promoted shared family roles in agriculture. Facilitated by Anisa from WFP, the sessions were praised for their inclusive approach and practical insights. Communities left empowered to adopt more equitable and sustainable farming practices.
