On January 23, 2025, the Somaliland Community Action Network (SCAN) conducted a one-day capacity-building training for its Climate Smart Food System Project staff. Held at the SCAN Meeting Hall in Hargeisa, the training aimed to address cross-cutting issues in agriculture, including climate change adaptation, gender inclusion, and environmental sustainability.
The session brought together 12 project staff and office members from the Gabiley Region, Somaliland’s agricultural hub, to enhance their understanding of sustainable practices and equip them with actionable strategies. The program featured presentations, workshops, and group discussions that tackled challenges such as water scarcity, soil degradation, and barriers to adopting modern farming techniques.
Key highlights included a workshop on climate-smart practices such as drip irrigation, agroforestry, and soil conservation, as well as collaborative action plan development to promote sustainable farming in the region. The training concluded with participants committing to implement their new knowledge in field operations.
This initiative aligns with SCAN’s mission to empower communities through innovative solutions for food security and climate resilience. Participants expressed enthusiasm for the program and recommended follow-up sessions to further strengthen skills and impact.
